Canadian Pro Mod standout racer Justin Bond had a simply terrific weekend effort at the US Nationals. The Mission BC-based driver — who was the quickest and fastest car in the JBS Equipment Camaro all weekend – advanced to the championship final only to lose by a narrow margin to JR Gray.  Justin qualified #1 and set both low ET and top speed of the event (5.654 secs 255.00 mph)

Another remarkable finish came from Ottawa-area driver Mike Reynolds who was runner-up for Super Stock eliminator.  The super talented young star racer wheeled the Gaffney Brothers SS/GA Camaro to six event win-lights only to succumb to a heart wrenching .007 red-light foul in the championship dash.

The truly formidable Canadian Pro Stock team of Eric and son Matt Latino were solid again within that super expensive category.  The pair qualified 7-8 – coincidentially running identical ETs at 6.590 secs.  Father Eric lost in round #1 (.008 red) and Matt (photo below) was taken out on a hole-shot star in round #2 by eventual event winner Dallas Glenn (6.596 secs to Matt’s quicker 6.581 secs).

Quebec’s Louis Gill was again a feared opponent runner at the event. After winning class with his Mustang FS/G he also went on to a 5th round finish in Super Stock eliminator driving his reliable GT/FA Chevy Cavalier. Louis (from Quebec City) lost out in round 5 on a breakout to eventual event winner Peter D’Agnolo.

Canada’s fan favourite fuel FC driver Spencer Hyde qualified extremely high at Indy – taking the Jim Head Racing into Monday’s eliminations #4 at 3.944 secs. In round #1 however Spencer was on the wrong side of a 3.925 secs to 4.119 secs race equation versus Paul Lee.

It was very cool to see Ontario’s Mike Clark back in action at Indy after a rather long business-related sabbatical.  Mike entered his “Smokies Garage” 2021 Challenger within the event’s  FlexJet Factory Stock Showdown race and qualified that #17 at 7.926 secs.  Clark did however damage the motor and was unable to make the first round call.   Things are however percolating again for Mike Clark who is Canada’s one and only FSS class racer.  He will be taking delivery of something very new coming for 2027 — we will have details in the not too distant!

Fans at Indy did get a special treat to see for the first time entry there by Edmonton’s Chevy Reeves who raced his “The Yeti” ’70 Chevelle within the event’s added attraction Outlaw Street class feature.   That inaugural race here (presented by Right Trailers) was an 8-car qualified field — but Chevy’s best run at 3.889 secs just missed the bump – 3.815 secs.

From the “Department of the Unexpected” at Indy came very early departures for both of the top-rated Top Alcohol class cars from Canada.  Stan Sipos (who qualified #7 (5.586 secs) for TAFC and Shawn Cowie, qualified #3 TAD (5.270 secs) for TAD both lost out in round #1 — an extremely rare twist of fate for both BC-based drivers.
