Thunder Valley Challenge Looms for Kenny Lang

Coming off solid late round appearances at the past two NHRA GSA Pro Mod Series events, Kenny Lang knows that his team will be challenged this weekend at the Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway…..

With a runner-up finish at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Springnationals in Houston and a semi-final showing at the most recent tour stop in Englishtown, New Jersey, the Toyota Supernationals, just two weeks ago, Lang knows that the momentum his Summit Racing team has gained will be given the ultimate test this weekend. “We’ve been to Bristol three times before and done ok,” said a reflective Lang. “We’ve always managed to get out of first round. This is one of the nicest tracks we go to but the heat and the elevation make it a tough place to tune. We’ll play with a few things to get it dialed in. We’re really looking forward to the challenge.”

Kenny Lang will continue his season NHRA GSA series pursuit this weekend

Despite a minor hiccup during the 4-Wide Nationals back in April, where the team failed to qualify due to mechanical gremlins, Lang and the Summit Racing Equipment Camaro have performed quite well this season. “Overall I think our performance has been good,” said Lang optimistically. “In Gainesville we qualified really well and went to the second round and after that the finals in Houston and the semi’s in Englishtown. We’re getting it sorted out but that takes time. We’ve got good performance from the car with Al Billes’ program and we’re definitely headed down the right path.”

Bristol Dragway is amongst the nicest facilities the GSA Pro Mod Series visits each season and Lang shares the same sentiments as many of his fellow professional drivers. “What Bruton (Smith) has done for drag racing is second to none. His race tracks are just unbelievable. Bristol, Vegas and Charlotte are world class facilities,” said Lang.

Qualifying for the GSA Pro Mod Series at the Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals gets underway Friday at 4:30 pm with the first round of eliminations scheduled for 4:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
