It will be “fumes and fire” this coming weekend when Cayuga Dragway (Toronto Motorsports Park) hosts it’s largest annual drag racing event….

The 2018 version Canadian Nitro Nationals goes off June 29-July 1st when the 9th annual early summer Eastern Canadian tradition event plays out.

Buoyed by it’s usual booked in but proven cast of characters, next weekend’s edition promises again to deliver new excitement and new memories for this highly devoted regional drag racing fan base.

Headlining the event will be a return of favourite Canadian drag racing son – Todd Paton, who will drive the vastly improved Paton Racing Top Fuel dragster in a match race versus Smax Smith.   That dragster, which is housed by team owner Barry Paton at nearby Paris Ontario, has had some impressive runs within big league NHRA drag racing this season – including a runner-up finish at the Gatornationals last March (with Shawn Reed driving).   If conditions allow it, both ends of the Cayuga Dragway track record could be in jeopardy (!?!)

Todd Paton will return to his home turf this weekend. Could Cayuga Dragway’s track records fall?

But the nitro-burning will not stop there,  TMP track owner Uli Bieri will also bring in four nitro Funny Cars (Dale Creasy, Jack Wyatt, Jeff (and Leeza) Diehl and Terry Haddock.   The AA/FA cars raced by Gary Kraus and Todd Martin will also be featured.

Chicagoland’s Dale “Peanut” Creasy is one of four booked in Nitro Funny Cars.

Jeff Diehl’s wife Leeza will once again be a popular guest during the Canadian Nitro Nationals!

The event will also showcase a number of jet cars, with Canada’s own “Northern Warrior” driven by Neale Armstrong attending as well as the absolutely awesome Jet-powered trucks : “Shockwave” and “Pirate’s Revenge”.

The Canadian fan favourite “Shockwave” Peterbilt returns!

The weekend’s action will also include a Canada versus USA 4-car field of Alcohol Funny Cars with Canadian drivers Paul Noakes and Aidian Heatley-Smith scheduled versus Western New York based drivers Paul Zgoda and Vince Rastelli.

London’s Paul Noakes will attempt to protect Canadian honour in some international TAFC class match competition.

Qualified fields in Pro Modified, Outlaw 10.5, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will help to fill out the very speedy weekend.

Action does get underway “under the lights” Friday evening followed by two very full days of racing competition Saturday and Sunday.
