Atchison Returns — Going Pro Mod Racing!
3X IHRA Funny Car Champion Rob Atchison is on the comeback trail! Robbie & Company plan to debut a 1963 Corvette Pro Mod this weekend at the PMRA Series Xtreme Mayhem Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park….
“We look forward to the exciting new challenge of running a suspension car and the opportunity to run the PMRA series in front of our great fans at all of our home tracks. Julie and I have a young family and now we can all travel together as a family and enjoy some fun and competitive racing” stated Atchison.
The Tim McAmis Corvette will be powered by the familiar Atchison Machine prepared 481X powerplant and will have regular Funny Car crew of Bob and Maxine Atchison, Julie Atchison, Kyle Harris, Pat Ryan, Colin Harris and Dennis Smith.
“Driving the Pro Mod will be a whole new experience and we are going to take a calculated slow easy approach”, states Atchison. In the Funny Car you have to be aggressive on the wheel to get the car straight down the track and these cars can’t be driven that way. I love the challenge and racing this close to home without the long drives and plane flights should put more fun back into racing. In the past racing the full IHRA schedule spending so much time on the road and the pressure of chasing a championship just wears you down. We still have one of our funny cars assembled and ready to go and we are trying to put together a few races with it this year as well as in the future.
The team is sponsored by Atchison Machine Service and West Coast Transportation along with product sponsors ; Aeroquip Performance Products, Mahle Clevite Bearings, Contact Welding Supplies, DeWalt Industrial Tools, Fel Pro Gaskets, Gates Belts, Hoosier Canada, JE Pistons, JET Tools and Equipment, Lenco Transmissions, Lor-Don Sheet Metal, Manley Performance, NGK Spark Plugs, Pennzoil / Shell Motorsports, Permatex Canada, Trend Performance and United Muffler Corp.
