Some nice sideline stories from the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals out at Castrol Raceway last weekend….
A very serious “tip of the cap” goes to the entire Hodgson/Papirnick Pacemaker Racing Funny Car camp who have gone out of there way to support a very important Canadian cause. Effective with the Edmonton event — the team has newly aligned itself with VETS to support awareness for returning Canadian Military personnel in need. (DragRaceCanada will have further details on this initiative – coming soon!)
A very nice moment happened for dynamic young lady and third generation Canadian drag racer Courtney Mageau during the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals. Courtney, driver of the “Girl Trouble” T-Bird Funny Car, was caught off guard by a very nice marriage proposal during the event’s pre-race ceremony when her Beau and crew member Lyndon Crone popped the (successful) question. Congratulations to both Courtney and Lyndon!
Kudos too for Calgary’s “Darkside Racing” Top Fuel camp. That very determined group finally had a nice bone tossed to them within this brutally tough class category. Veteran driver David Fedorowich recorded his career best ET (and first 4) with a 4.981 secs (1/4 mile racing) while winning his match race round over Bruce Litton on Sunday. The timing of the nice lap could not have been better and it thrilled the team’s new sponsor – Zomongo.
An unexpected and impressive entry during the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals came courtesy of the KHR team from Ontario. Driver Kyle Harris made the tow West in support of his primary sponsor (Charles Jones Industrial) who opened a new Edmonton facility. Then at the track Kyle did make some huge noise too. While racing on a exhibition basis only – his machine notched a string of 6.0 secs ET’s including a best time of 6.005 secs. We would confidently go out on a limb to say that was the quickest legal Top Dragster class time in Castrol Raceway history (!?)
