Pro Mod event highlights from within Napierville NHRA National Open weekend…

Napierville Dragway’s recent giant weekend of racing (NHRA National Open/John Scotti Canadian Championship Series) also included round #2 for that track’s 4-race season series FuelTech Pro Mod category.

That event portion saw 2024 FuelTech Series points champion, Claude St-Maurice, take down an 8-car 1/8th mile qualified field.

St-Maurice (from Montreal) qualified #1 with a 3.737 secs with ever improving supercharged Firebird.

The first round of eliminations began St-Maurice advancing on a single pass. In the next matchup between Jérôme Blackburn and Christian Leclerc, Blackburn posted an impressive 4.16-second run, while Leclerc encountered issues at the starting line.

Cédric Beaulieu faced Claude Fortin and it was Beaulieu all the way to the win with a 4.13-second pass, while Fortin also experienced problems off the line. The final first-round pairing featured Louis Coulombe against Carl Brunet. Brunet impressed with a quick 3.83-second run, while Coulombe struggled at the launch.

In the semifinals, Claude St-Maurice faced Jérôme Blackburn. Blackburn suffered a mechanical failure during the burnout, allowing St-Maurice to advance with another outstanding 3.73-second pass at 201 mph.

In the other semifinal, Cédric Beaulieu took on Carl Brunet. Brunet continued his strong performance with another 3.83-second run at 193 mph, while Beaulieu ran into trouble and recorded a 4.74-second pass at 136 mph.

In the final, Claude St-Maurice was declared the winner after Carl Brunet was unable to make the call and stage for the race. This victory also moved St-Maurice up to third for series points.

Claude St-Maurice won at Napierville Dragway last week — continuing his impressive rise & reputation within Eastern Canada’s regional PM class racing.

R/UP Carl “Top Gun” Brunet continues to lead the overall points standings as the series hit its halfway mark. The Brunet Racing Pontiac remains a “giant killer” configuration car — uniquely employing a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine program with the normal sea of V8’s prevalent to the Pro Mod class.

Team co-owner Nicolas Brunet was pleased with his team’s performance outcome for the event.

“Our best run ever before was 3.806 secs (at 194 mph) and last weekend had best of 3.813 secs (196.21 mph),” he stated. “The world record is 3.805 secs — so I think we’re ready for the next event.”
