Cayuga Dragway’s “final feature” for 2021 provided a very interesting mix of Canadian drag racing circuitry…..

It was all on the line during a rather impressive “one day wonder” event at Toronto Motorsports Park as the final major attraction of 2021 went into the books (Oct. 2nd).

No less then three drag racing entities (Ontario Grudge Wars Smackdown V – Can-Am Stock/Super Stock racing – CJR Performance Car Club) were on that day’s “fight card” and together they produced some memorable and non-stop action — with definite “NT” overtones.

Canada’s “Kingpin” for fast street car racing – Nick Agostino ruled the roost once again. Agostino – who had clinched the 2021 points title for Canada Heads Up circuit racing just a couple weeks prior — was unbeaten again while winning the OGW “No Time Shootout” title for the Outlaw class. Nick, after running one of his quickest and fastest passes ever off the trailer — sat out round two of testing. The Markham-based racer then waded through that 12-car field – topping Peter Palladino’s Firebird in the final round — to sign off his very successful 2021 season.
Quebec provincial invader Martin Poudrier came away with the OGW belt for Limited 28’s racing with his turbocharged ’90 Mustang. Martin — who is part of the impressive 2-car Poudrier Racing team (from Quebec City) was assured the title when he won in the semi final round when his scheduled opponent Tyler Kranendonk (from Norwich ON) broke his Mustang and could not return. Poudrier’s victory came over a very competitive 16-car field of entries.

Index racing saw three title winners from Ontario. Jay Lightfoot, from Norwich (top photo) won the 6.50 index in his Chevy Monte Carlo and Mike Thompson (Terra Cotta) won in 6.0 with his 1980 Mustang. Chris Brohman (from Haggersville) – below — scored a 5.50 title with his “Clockwork Orange” Plymouth Duster.
Windsor’s Rob Wade was a popular winner in the Street 275 class (which also utilized a 5.5 secs index) securing that title with his really neat turbocharged ’66 Chevy Nova
Motorcycle racing titles for OGW Smackdown were won by Quebec City racer Denis Lacroix (top) and by Nick Kempers (Orangeville ON)
The Can-Am Stock/ Super Stock contingent featured a familiar winner with Chris Lozon (a 3X series points champion) winning again in his amazing GT/EA Olds Achieva. Chris defeated a tough 52-car field for the win – including final round opponent Dean Moggach’s GT/HA Camaro (below photo).
Ontario’s reputed CJR Performance car club (Pickering) hosted an impressive program. Although very Mopar-brand orientated — the eliminator featured a great blend of makes, models, shapes and sizes during an entertaining all day on and off track display.
