Canadian drag racers shine during back-to-back weekend major NHRA events held in fabulous Las Vegas…..

The province of Saskatchewan was well represented during last week’s NHRA Four Wide Nationals event with strong finishes by both Barry Pollard (top) and Sheldon Erfle. Pollard (from Regina) raced his familiar and mid 11-sec capable H/SA ’76 Plymouth to the fourth round in Stock eliminator while Saskatoon-based Sheldon Erfle went even further with his Olds Achieva – advancing to a superb semi final placing with his high-flying GT/JA class car in Super Stock.

Super Gas index veteran Dave Archambault (from Calgary) had his best finish so far in NHRA national event competition since switching to this topless ’57 Chevy. Dave scored three round win lights before going .004 red versus Val Torres during the NHRA’s 4-Wide Nationals event.

Mike Lucas and his wife Jackie enjoyed great success last weekend with a big win in the Top Sportsman category – during the NHRA Lucas Oil Regional event. After qualifying their very Pro Street-looking Camaro #30 – Mike was steady consistent while ticking off 5 win lights – including a final round decision over Don Meziere. Mike, who is based from Fort St. John BC, delivered a brilliant .004 RT in that final which proved to be the difference. It was Mike’s 2nd career win on the NHRA divisional level TS trail.

Canadian TAD powerhouse Shawn Cowie did have a strong comeback at the NHRA Lucas Oil Regional race following a disappointing 2nd round red-light loss the week before. Shawn qualified the Mundies Towing dragster #1 (5.250 secs) and beat Madison Payne and Johnny Ahten to make the final round. But Shawn came up just short versus his top rival Joey Severance in that conclusion – when his quicker 5.299 ET lost out to Severance’s quicker RT (.021). Cowie did have top speed for the TAD class – at 275.75 mph.
