Some more recent happenings of consequence within the Canadian drag racing scene…..
Classy Weekend Ahead — After a one-year deletion – a NHRA National Open format event will return to TMP Cayuga Dragway this coming weekend. Both NHRA “class car” and ET bracket racers will be in full pursuit mode for a coveted NHRA “Wally” during the event which will see full eliminations both on Saturday and Sunday. While the existing COVID border predicament will prevent again much participation from the area’s neighbouring USA based racers — a good field of machines – particularly within the NHRA Stock and Super Stock class ranks are expected.
NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing will be a centre stage at Cayuga Dragway this coming weekend.
Bond’s BIR Bash – Stalwart Canadian Pro Mod class racer Justin Bond did experience a setback during the most recent NHRA national event race – the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd MN. Justin – from Mission BC, who was the #1 qualifier for the E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod event at 5.757 secs (low ET) made rather heavy top end contact with the wall during a first round single to end his event bid. Strong cross winds at the time were likely a factor. Justin, who currently sits third in season points (after 6/11 races) reports that repairs will be made to his Bahrain 1 Racing Camaro and he will race at Indy’s fabled US Nationals at Indy (this weekend).
Canada Heads-Up (Date) — St Thomas Dragway hosted the most recent CHP circuit event on August 14-15th. The event featured wins in Super Street by Frankie Doldo’s Camaro (above) and by Tyler Kranendonk in EZ Street with his Mustang (below). Other winners included James Watson (Street 275), Jeff Gilbert – 6.5 Index, Jerry Sicuella 6.0 index and John Stornelli 5.5 index. The CHU motorcycle racing contingent saw eliminator wins claimed by Jesse Van Betleham (KOST), Mike Pereira (Crazy 8’s) and Damien Tong (Stock Wheelbase). CHU has two more events remaining for 2021 (both coming in September) one each at St. Thomas Dragway and Cayuga Dragway.
