2021’s chase for Edmonton’s Top Eliminator glory includes a repeat title winner‚Ķ.

After enduring a “covid condensed” schedule last year, Edmonton’s reputed Top Eliminator ran a full compliment of season events this season — and it was a familiar and skilled racer who endured.

Jason Padd, who is from Chestermere AB., affirmed his reputation as one of Western Canada’s Sportsman elite level racers while again winning the overall points championship for TE in 2021. He had also won it during the 2019 season campaign.

“Winning any championship is a great feeling — but Top Eliminator is such a big accomplishment in my eyes,” Jason confided. “It’s a series were no racer can ever be taken lightly — there are so many great skill sets and amazing equipment.”

“This championship boiled right down to the last race and it was so close to the end – no one was sure how it could finish,” he revealed. “But to add more stress – my driveshaft broke in qualifying for the final race! And despite lots of help trying to get me fixed for first round it – that was unsuccessful — so I had to sit on the side lines and watch it all unfold. It wasn’t until about half way through our final day that the title was mathematically secured.”

Padd’s season ending points total of 514 – edged out Jenna Michaud (457) and Chevy Reeves (432) in the final tally.

Padd, who has been supported by primary sponsor Automaxx for the last four years, was racing a 2009 Mullis-built dragster which he first acquired back in 2013. His motor program is a 632 CID Sunset Performance Engine.

Jason Padd enjoyed another lucrative season racing his Mullis-built Top Dragster.

This TE title at what now is officially RAD Torque Raceway (formally Castrol Raceway) was in actuality just the latest feather in the cap for Jason Padd. It wrapped up a super successful all around season which also included some lucrative “Cash is King” event placings in addition to his two event wins within the Top Eliminator chase itself.

“My biggest thanks goes out to my wife (Kim) who spends weekend after weekend at the track by my side,” Jason added. “A huge thanks to Bob & Gord Ebertz & RAD Torque Raceway itself. I could not have done this without my sponsors Automaxx, Pro 1 Safety and VP Racing Fuels. A very special thank you to Joe Jolly (Sunset Performance Engines), Kevin Klienweber (Hughes Performance) and to Art Congden — for keeping my transmission together year after year!”

Jason Padd visited victory lane often again during 2021!

In 2021 – the Top Eliminator completed it’s 14th season of operations after the club was first established in 2007 by Bob & Gord Ebertz. It was a 10-race points series, starting in June and racing until September but also including a special edition “Big Buck” event (also all 1/4 mile) held in July.

Edmonton’s Top Eliminator Club features both Top Dragster and Top Sportsman cars in head-to-head competition.

The series, which has over 80 member racers and which features both Top Dragster and Top Sportsman class cars, did attract on average about 45 cars for each of it’s events in 2021.

“Despite COVID mode again — for 2021 our Top Eliminator series was very successful,” added Kelly Ritchie, a TE Club organizer and also now a licensed racer herself. “The club got all 10 races completed and made the best of the situation. As usual all of our top eliminator events were fierce and competitive. Unfortunately, we won’t have a banquet to celebrate” (although numerous bottles of J√§germeister were involved already) – she winked.

Jenna Michaud (with parents Trent and Arlieigh above) placed 2nd in final TE points — 2021 was the 4th year of racing for the up and coming Edmonton-based young lady driver.
Chevy Reeves – who is son to iconic track owners Rob and Kim – placed a superb 3rd in points racing his RAD Torque Systems sponsored Top Dragster.

Top Eliminator Club is self funded with support by associations with AFD, Ace Manufacturing, Twister Piling, LJ Autobody, the Padd & Ritchie families and Global Power.

2021 season TE Club racing included a successful debut for Kelly Ritchie (wife to Trevor) within the Top Dragster class realm.
