The NMCA’s brand of Pro Mod class racing was a featured part of — Super Bowl XIV — in Chicagoland…
The 14th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing (presented by FST Carburetors) held at fabulous Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois — included the 4th of 6 season rounds for the circuit’s marquee VP Racing Fuels presented Xtreme Pro Mod class category.
The well attended eliminator (23 entries) concluded with a pre race favourite and series overall points leader – Don Walsh Jr. — emerging victorious.
Driving his highly potent turbocharged C7 – Walsh Jr., was a picture of consistency while winning for the 2nd time this season for his Michigan-based race team.
After qualifying on the pole (3.745 secs) for this 1/8th mile feature – Walsh Jr., carved out three more mid 3.7 secs ETs during eliminations while defeating Brad Berkshire, Eric Gustafon and Kyle Megginson to advance to the final round.
Then in that conclusion – Walsh’s C7 delivered low ET of the meet at 3.729 secs at 211.00 mph to defeat Route 66 local racer Randy Adler (from Tinley Park IL) who’s supercharged ’57 Chevy Bel Air recorded a 3.770 secs 201.40 mph.

Michigan’s Don Walsh Jr., was a convincing Xtreme Pro Mod class winner at the NMCA’s most recent event offering.
VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod class racing featured a bump spot of 4.033 secs and former NMCA points champ Steve Summer – racing his late model turbocharged Camaro – was credited with top MPH of the event at 212.23 mph.

Top 2019 championship points contender Jim Widener stayed in contention with a strong semi final round finish.

We did have a flash back to our visit to Australia last year while watching Chuck Weck’s Aussie-influenced ’59 Saratoga entry!
